Spanish is not the only language in spain man, what do you think ??!!
0 comments Posted by Akshaya at 2:51 PMI was in Paris and Barcelona recently and when myself and my friend retired to the camping, rested a while and started expressing our views and what we felt when I asked a spanish friend of mine why is every sign post or hoarding displayed in two languages, spanish and the other ? and which is that other language ?
He started with "Hmmm" and continued look, we have our own language and dont think that we belong to spain. We are catalonians rather. got it ?.
My next question was "what is Catalonia though?
Catalonia is a state in north eastern part of spain and is autonomous and federal is many aspects. Main language spoken is CATALAN. Similarly there are different regions in Spain that does not speak Spanish like Valentia where it is Valentiano, EUSKERA in Pais Vasco, GALLEGO in Gallicia, ARAGONESE, BASQUE, ASTURIAN and other dialects of Spanish. They soon diminished due to suppression of Spanish rulers but now due to UNESCO and laws concerning language and rights, they have their right and they have the authority to say " go away freaking spanish or speak our language ".
Before we revolutionised bangalore, benda-kalooru became "bangalore" what we see at present- pathetic, desperate, longing for our own place back from bullies, being forced or enticed into learning or speaking in another language other than kannada, making a few people think that kannada is not as cool as english or hindi or any other language and in addition to the fore-mentioned ordeal, taking criticisms from annoying bullies and freaks.
When are we going to realise that our personal space has been breached and we have been taken as granted. I was thinking why do Karnataka have Karnataka Rakshana Vedike and tamilnadu does not have anything like Tamil Nadu protection forum. THINK !!!... Did we really need "Karnataka Rakshana Vedike" if we were strong enough ?
Development is essential and every human thinking is obviously directed one way or the other towards development of his own or the society. Tamil Nadu generates twice as much revenue per year than Karnataka and Chennai is one of the four metro-politan cities in India. In that respect, chennai should have been more contaminated than Bangalore.
I wish Kannadigas should be stronger than tamilians in language matters. But when did "we" become soft-target ????
like Master Hirannayya says in a play of his "Paschaataapa", we dont bother about emigrants from other states and we will keep sheltering them. one of the reasons for the above questions. one of the most influential languages in India, that influenced marathi, gujarathi, tamil, malayalam and mother of telugu was put at stake when the germ of globalisation infected kannadigas and pre-occupied their minds like a parasite adding to the damage that was done by Old british to our language. Let me give an instance of Ireland (Eire) which was ruled by british as well taking over lands from irish farmers. land lord system existed just like in India but the aura created by british to make irish people feel that they are superior of other if they know english was over powering and today its an english speaking country and you hardly get to see people speaking irish. So is the case with most of the celtic languages like scottish gaelic and welsh. So its now or never kind of situation. If you dont realise the loss, YOU ARE GOING TO LOSE YOUR IDENTITY !!!
